چکیده

This paper disctu;ses some advances in non-contact, interferometric optical profilers. Topics discussed include: (i) The advantages of using a white light source, rather than a laser source, (ii) The tradeoff between the use of Michelson, Mirau, and Linnik interferometers for different fields of view and different lateral resolutions, and.(iii) Techniques for removing errors in the reference surface enabling a person to measure sub-Angstrom surface microstructure in the presence of a much rougher reference surface,,.

Advanced Fiber Characterization Technologies for Fiber Lasers and Amplifiers

Optical fiber gain profiling, spectrogram modal analysis, and interferometric refractive index and residual stress measurement are presented. Information obtained from these novel characterization technologies is critical for design and assembly of fiber-based lasers and amplifiers. OCIS codes: (060.2270) Fiber Characterization; (060.3510) Lasers, fiber

Fiber Optic Interferometric Devices

Fiber optic interferometry can be broadly explained as the techniques that utilize the fundamental principles of optical interference to measure physical sample properties or detect changes via sensing systems that are partially or completely realized using fiber optic components. While the field of optical interference dates back to second half of seventeenth century, the advent of fiber optic...

Advances and Emerging Applications of Spectral-domain Optical Coherence Tomography Imaging in Ophthalmology

Evaluation and monitoring of many ocular diseases require the visualization of vitreal, retinal, and subretinal microscopic structures. Optical coherence tomography (OCT), first reported in 1991, is an interferometric tool for 3D imaging of objects hidden in scattering media such as the human eye. With spatial resolution of just a few microns, this non-invasive imaging system has been rapidly a...

Interferometric Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (iNIRS) for determination of optical and dynamical properties of turbid media.

We introduce and implement interferometric near-infrared spectroscopy (iNIRS), which simultaneously extracts optical and dynamical properties of turbid media through analysis of a spectral interference fringe pattern. The spectral interference fringe pattern is measured using a Mach-Zehnder interferometer with a frequency-swept narrow linewidth laser. Fourier analysis of the detected signal is ...

Depth Profilometry via Multiplexed Optical High-Coherence Interferometry

Depth Profilometry involves the measurement of the depth profile of objects, and has significant potential for various industrial applications that benefit from non-destructive sub-surface profiling such as defect detection, corrosion assessment, and dental assessment to name a few. In this study, we investigate the feasibility of depth profilometry using an Multiplexed Optical High-coherence I...
